2010 Volkswagen Passat Just Average

The 2010 Volkswagen Passat is ranked by Edmunds reviews number 16 in the affordable mid-size car class. The interior is very close to those found in luxury sedans available for much higher prices. The manufacturer's suggested retail price of $25,000 suggests a higher class of mid-size sedan. The 2010 version of the Volkswagen Passat comes together in a well-balanced package that allows the driver to enjoy a comfortable cabin area and a sport tuned suspension. The Passat comes with Volkswagen's standard three year or 36,000 mile factory warranty, but the standard four cylinder turbo charged engine delivers mediocre fuel economy compared with others in its class.
Unfortunately for those looking for different engine options, the 2010 version of the Passat only comes with one option. The four cylinder turbo-charged gas motor comes coordinated with an automatic 6-speed transmission; a combination which makes the drive train more powerful than other four cylinder drive train options in the same mid-size class. The transmission does have the Triptronic shift control option, which allows part time manual shifting of the transmission.

The 200 horsepower motor only provides 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway; not the top rating for its car class. Though lack of engine and interior trim options may make the Passat a no go for some, there are die hard Volkswagen enthusiasts in the world who would drive nothing else. The roomy interior and luxury cabin appointments may outweigh ultimate fuel economy for those looking for a comfortable, well-handling ride that does not drain the gas pump like a sport utility vehicle.
